Overview

Deakin College is located across three campuses in Victoria – Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, and Geelong Waterfront. The Geelong campuses offer students diploma pathways to Deakin University in the fields of engineering, health sciences, science, and commerce.

Equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, the diploma programmes offer students innovative teaching and engagement with digital learning technologies. This learning experience prepares students to take the leap to university studies and thrive in their future careers.

Additionally, both Geelong campuses offer foundation studies. The Foundation Program is designed for international students and is similar to Year 12, preparing them for entry into first-year university studies. The course consists of either a standard or extended track programme, allowing students to complete their course within a flexible eight to 12-month period, depending on their requirements.

Deakin College also provides various services focusing on language, literacy, and numeracy skills to assist students in their studies. The college intentionally keeps class sizes small, with a maximum of 30 students in diploma classes and 25 in foundation classes, so teachers are able to give the best possible support and attention to each individual student.

Services for International Students

Deakin College’s Geelong campuses offer a comprehensive range of support services to help international students settle into life in Victoria and begin their studies in confidence. Its extensive study and academic support are offered through:

  • Student Learning Advisors who help with time management, research, referencing, and exam preparation
  • Student mentors who offer study tips and help peers get involved with college life
  • Academic coordinators who offer academic support specific to individual courses

Orientation – an activity-filled, exciting first week of studies – gives international students the first taste of life at Deakin College. It’s also a great opportunity for students to learn more about their course to prepare for an easy transition to higher studies.

After the orientation week concludes, Student Counsellors are always available to chat to students about study or personal issues, including accommodation difficulties, family matters, attendance issues, or homesickness.

Accommodation

Deakin College’s Geelong campuses have a wide variety of housing options, so students can choose the best accommodation that suits their budget and lifestyle. On-campus accommodation is available at both Waurn Ponds and Waterfront, providing comfortable, secure, and welcoming residences. These are equipped with modern facilities and have a 24/7 reception, adding to the security and comfort offered to students.

If students prefer to live off campus, Deakin College provides guidance on housing options such as full board and shared residences through Deakin University Student Life. This is a free database where students can search for housing near all the Deakin campuses.

Students can also opt for homestays where they live with an Australian family or resident – a great way to improve language skills and learn about local culture.
