Overview

Established in 1997, the Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT) offers a direct pathway to a university degree. Flexible entry requirements, a personalised academic environment, and a range of support services ensure that every student can carve their path in tertiary studies by completing SIBT’s foundation and diploma programmes.

SIBT’s diplomas in business, communication and creative industries, engineering, and IT can be completed in eight to 12 months, after which students can progress straight into their second-year studies at Western Sydney University. Catering to individual students’ requirements, SIBT’s diplomas can be used to upskill to either meet the academic requirements for university entry or to kickstart a new career.

The institute’s Foundation Program acts as a bridge between high school and tertiary studies. Students can improve their knowledge in core subject areas and practice academic study skills that can help them succeed in university.

Over 27,000 students have utilised SIBT’s pathway programmes to prepare for university success, and have demonstrated strong achievements in key fields like business and communication.

Services for International Students

SIBT is committed to helping international students make their dream of studying in an Australian university a reality by guiding them through every step of their academic journey. Students are assisted with applying for visas, arriving in Australia, locating suitable housing, and selecting their courses.

Student life at SIBT begins with an orientation event where students can:

  • Receive detailed course information
  • Select course units and preferred class times
  • Meet a personal student mentor
  • Be introduced to a range of student support services and facilities

SIBT has a dedicated Student Services Team, providing free, confidential, and professional support to help students succeed. They also help international students adjust to study and life in Australia by facilitating English language and study help programmes, English conversation groups, and dedicated academic literacy and mathematics support.

Accommodation

Studying in Sydney’s city centre means that SIBT students can choose from a variety of accommodation options to suit their individual lifestyle and budget. Students can find housing in the centre of the city, in its multicultural inner suburbs, or in the coastal suburbs of east or north Sydney.

Purpose-built student housing provides fully furnished, single or shared rooms, with en-suite bathrooms and kitchenettes, onsite security, student support, common rooms, and occasionally extra facilities such as a pool. Since students can share these houses with peers, they’re generally affordable and offer flexibility. If students wish to immerse themselves in Australian culture and practice their English language skills, they can opt to homestay with a local Sydney family.

About Location

SIBT’s state-of-the-art Sydney City Campus boasts a student-centred, modern learning environment. Classrooms are small to enhance personal learning, with lecture rooms having a maximum capacity of 50 students and tutorial rooms hosting a maximum of 25 students. Two independent learning areas, equipped with a kitchen, TV, and pool table, are available on campus where students can do group work, relax, or engage in independent study.

Additionally, the campus has its own on-campus library, equipped with computers and printing facilities. Students can also take a ten-minute walk from campus to NSW’s State Library, where they can access a whole host of additional resources that can help them with their coursework.

SIBT is located directly across from Hyde Park and within walking distance of iconic destinations like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. This convenient location allows international students to experience the best of Australian culture, cuisine, and natural beauty.

International students arriving in Australia can plan their travel to the Sydney International Airport, where a variety of transportation options like taxis, trains, and buses can take them to the campus (about 20 minutes away by car).

"SI-Australia helped me successfully apply to study business in Australia and I cannot thank them enough for their support. They assisted me with each step, ensuring I was aware of all my options in terms of program and university selection, making the process totally stress free"
