Overview

The Gordon Institute of Technical and Further Education (The Gordon Institute of TAFE), known as The Gordon, was established in 1887 and quickly began building a reputation for its excellence in training students for technical training required in the industrial age of the 1800s. From its origins as a mechanics institute and a night school for tradespeople, The Gordon has since grown to become one of the largest TAFEs in Victoria, delivering a great range of study options in vocational hands-on training across four campuses.

Students can choose from hundreds of short courses and nationally accredited qualifications such as apprenticeships, traineeships, certificates, diplomas, and advanced diplomas, in diverse subject areas. The institute is especially known for training students for industries like:

  • Art, design, and floristry
  • Building, design, and construction
  • Hairdressing and beauty therapy

The Gordon students can obtain practical training in a safe and supportive environment, guaranteed placement opportunities in the workforce, and personalised attention from its small class sizes. Additionally, The Gordon continuously attracts international students to take advantage of its study options, currently boasting approximately 12,000 international alumni.
